You’ve probably all seen the new spiffy helmet John Diggle is wearing sometime in season 4 of Arrow, but – why?
John Diggle is no stranger to wearing a uniform as he did so at least a few times in season 2 and 3 of the series. However, instead of wearing the hood and leather, he’s now wearing the – helmet? Per Marc Guggenheim to EW:
We try to be very consistent with our characterization. I don’t think Diggle looks at it as a costume per se. Oliver, in the last season, gave him advice in terms of concealing his identity, and so Diggle approaches it from a very practical standpoint. He followed Oliver’s advice and he’s got a means of concealing his identity, but I think Diggle would probably react to anyone calling it a costume.
So, it’s not a costume but something to hide his identity while he gallivants as a part-time hero, dad and husband. Okay, I can buy that but I truly don’t understand the design. Has no one on the costume creative team ever heard of Magneto or Juggernaut? This was ripe for mockery and photoshopping.
However, having seen the “full” uniform, I guess it’s not so bad as it’s a little – shiny for nighttime vigilantism. P. Diddy and FOX’s Quicksilver is jealous. Details are important, so the above references aren’t really accurate in live action, but – it was a fun meme for a day of two.
He sort of looks like The Guardian, too.
Arrow Season 4 Premiers of CW, October 7 at 8PM.
